About Dr. Mapou
Dr. Robb Mapou is board-certified in clinical neuropsychology by the American Board of Professional Psychology, only one of two board-certified neuropsychologists in Delaware. He evaluates individuals ages 16 to 100 for neurological, neurodevelopmental, and psychiatric disorders. He also provides consultation to parents regarding children aged six to 15. Dr. Mapou specializes in evaluating adolescents and adults with autism spectrum disorders. However, for more than 25 years, he has specialized in the evaluation of adolescents and adults with learning disabilities and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Dr. Mapou also specializes in Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) mandated evaluations for airman medical certification. Currently, his practice is primarily limited to evaluations for the FAA, evaluation of adults with neurological conditions/concerns, and evaluation of older adults for ASD. Other evluations will be considered on a case-by-case basis. He is licensed to practice in Delaware, Maryland, and Hawaii. In addition to his Rehoboth Beach practice, he works periodically at the Center for Assessment and Treatment, in Chevy Chase, MD.
Dr. Mapou is nationally-recognized for his work on learning disabilities and ADHD in adults. He is senior editor of the 1995 book, Clinical Neuropsychological Assessment: A Cognitive Approach. His second book, Adult Learning Disabilities and ADHD: Research Informed Assessment, was published by Oxford University Press in 2009. He has published chapters and on assessment of learning disabilities and ADHD in adults and regularly presents continuing professional education workshops on this topic. Most recently, he has written a book chapter for neuropsychologists on interviewing adults for neurodevelopmental disorders.
Dr. Mapou is a consultant for the Delaware Division of Developmental Disabilities Services and for several universities, for whom he reviews documentation to determine eligibility for support services. He is also a consultant in neuropsychology for the FAA. He holds faculty appointments in the Department of Neurology at Georgetown University School of Medicine, and the Departments of Psychiatry and Neurology at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences. Dr. Mapou served as President of the American Academy of Clinical Neuropsychology (AACN) from 2004 to 2006 and has served in other professional organization capacities. In addition to AACN, he is a member of the International Neuropsychological Association, a member and Fellow of the National Academy of Neuropsychology, a member and Fellow (Society for Clinical Neuropsychology, Division 40) of the American Psychological Association, and a member of the Delaware Psychological Association.
In February 2022, Dr. Mapou was appointed by former Governor John Carney to serve on the Delaware Board of Examiners of Psychologists. He is currently the President of the Board and will serve through 2026. He is also a member of the Legal and Ethics Committee of the Delaware Psychological Association.
Apart from his work, Dr. Mapou has a love of Hawaiian culture and music. He plays ‘ukulele, specializing in Hawaiian music and jazz standards. He is also an avid swimmer and gym rat. He and his husband have lived in Rehoboth Beach since 2017 after many years in the Maryland suburbs of Washington, DC, Boston, and Atlanta. They have two rescue dogs.
